The Scallop at Aldeburgh

Is one of my favourite sculptures, designed by local artist Maggi Hambling dedicated to Benjamin Britten (composer who spent much of his life in Aldeburgh). It stands approx 15 feet high and can be found on the beach just up from Aldeburgh town. I love how the light changes how it looks, how clouds can darken the shadows and the sun can make the surface glimmer. As I stood setting up my camera children scurried and peaked out from under it, couples leaned up to take a selfie against it and families gathered around it.

Photography studio is open for business…

One of the good things to come out of this strange and worrying time is that I have had time to focus on one of my websites and with fantastic IT support from Tony Merryfield I have created a new site for The Family Photographer. Coronavirus Info

CORONAVIRUS INFO: My studio is currently still open, however because of the recent government recommendations if you have a shoot booked with me and would prefer to defer your shoot to another date you are free to do so.

For clients who still wish to go ahead I would like to reassure you that I am taking the following precautions for each shoot.

1) Not shaking hands on arrival

2) Washing my hands between each shoot

3) Disinfecting door handles after each shoot

3) Maintaining the recommended 1 meter distance from other people

John Waterhouse inspired portraits

I remember standing and staring in awe at the ‘The Lady of Shalott’ when I saw it years ago in a London gallery. It’s a picture I had on my wall when I gave birth to my daughter at home, it’s one of those pictures which has stayed with me through my life. I have always loved the softness of the colours the mystery and the femininity shown in paintings by John Waterhouse. Here are some recent portrait images I took at my studio which were definitely inspired by his beautiful art.

In her hair she has red berries almost like a crown. Her expression is one of innocence and at the same time strength. Holding herself tall she appears to have a quiet confidence.

New year new website

The year started off mega busy with a mix of studio shoots and visiting premises. I share my Colchester Photo Studio with other Photographers & creatives for a nominal fee of only £25 p/h. To give more info about the studio I have updated the studio website here. I hire the studio out to film makes, pro photographers, students, amateur photographers and also offer tuition if needed.
