Wow that was a busy summer of photography, I am not complaining I have loved every minute of it. My work is so varied it never gets boring one day I am shooting a tiny little newborn only a few days old the next I am taking a portrait of a CEO of a London legal firm. Even the product photography can become absorbing and all consuming, in my work I am a perfectionist so the devil really is in the detail.

Take the Wedding flowers I shoot, its not all about he composition and getting the lighting right, its about every leaf and every petal looking the best it can look.

Life is pretty messy when you look at it close up on your PC screen, leaves and petals have nibbles, holes, growths, fungus, bugs, rips, colour variations all have to spotted,studied and corrected as part of my editing process. I don’t really like gardening but I do love nature and its beautiful patterns and design.

Oakley Wine Agencies were looking to have some pictures taken to celebrate their 25 years of being in business. They needed the images to accompany various articles and editorials in the industry magazines and blogs. 

Product Photography

I work on small orders myself and have other photographers who I have worked with before to call on for large orders. The most common request I have is to have the products placed on a pure white background with an added shadow or reflection. Sometimes my clients ask for their products to be placed on a clear layer so the product can be placed onto different colour backgrounds or onto a website. Here’s a few pics from one of my product shoots, sometimes showing your products on a model can really help show them off. It also gives your customers an idea of the colour, size and look of your product against the skin.

Some shots from a Product Photography shoot for the company Why Buy New . They wanted a model to use their product so their customers can see the size of the product and how easy it is to use. I hired a model and shot at my studio in Colchester. It was fun to shoot, good job I had fan going…

I recently did a series of images for Castellon Olives  they wanted their product photography images as PNG files on a clear layer with added shadow so that they could use them in different places on their website.

Each product was shot against a pure white perspex background at my studio and cut out in Photoshop saved as PNG files and transferred onto a clear layer.

Hi, phewee I cannot believe we are already in the middle of February. Time seems to be flying past and I did have plans to write more on my blog this year. I want to share ideas, offer photography tips which I find useful and share a few stories without breaking anyone’s confidence! So hopefully I will find time to introduce more of that and not just use my blog to post pics.

In the mean time here is an image taken from a shoot I did with ‘Nudge Drinks’ a new smoothie company which you will hopefully soon see on your supermarket shelves. Yummy smoothies made with frozen fresh fruit.
